Looking to add more power to your golf swing? In this video, Coach Zach Allen shares some invaluable insights and techniques to help you beef up your swing and hit those shots farther than ever before.
Coach Zach emphasizes the importance of using heavier swing trainers to engage your big muscles effectively. While lighter trainers like speed sticks have their purpose, heavier options like the E-Bell Swing Trainer can make a significant difference in building strength and power. With its 8 lb weight, the E-Bell Swing Trainer ensures you're not just swinging with your arms but engaging your core, glutes, and legs for maximum power.
But the E-Bell Swing Trainer isn't the only tool in Coach Zach's arsenal. He also demonstrates exercises with kettlebells and the RMT Club made by WeckMethod to simulate the feel of a golf club while adding resistance. By incorporating these tools into your training regimen, you'll notice a considerable improvement in your grip strength, forearm power, and overall swing dynamics.
Coach Zach breaks down the mechanics of generating power in your swing, emphasizing the importance of proper weight transfer and momentum buildup. He shares insights from legendary golfers like Hogan and techniques used by long drive champions to maximize force through the swing.
Throughout the video, Coach Zach provides actionable drills and tips, such as the "monster walk" and focusing on a strong backswing, to help you develop a powerful and consistent swing.
Whether you're a beginner looking to add distance to your shots or a seasoned golfer aiming for more consistency, Coach Zach's advice and training methods will undoubtedly take your game to the next level.

    Good video, Zach !!! However, "The Golfing Machine" is very easy to read.... IF YOU KNOW HOW TO READ IT!! Helpful Hint from the The Man Himself: "Apply "plastic tabs" to the first page of each chapter so you can quickly flip through the book for reference as required." Homer invented the modern language of the golf swing (elbow plane, flat left wrist, swing plane, power packages, flying wedges, power accumulator, etc., etc). It is absolutely VITAL to FIRST read and study the GLOSSARY before you ever attempt to read the book! Homer's day job was writing landing gear and wing flap test manuals for Boeing Aircraft Co. so his verbiage is very specific and narrowly defined. One must fully grasp the definitions of the terminology before fully comprehending the book. Learn the 24 basic components as well. Yes, it takes tie and effort. TGM is NOT a how-to golf book of tips, quick fixes, or teaching one general swing type as Hogan's 5 Lessons. TGF is not a book about what IS; it is a book about what is POSSIBLE as the 24 swing components are assembled into various "packages" ... approx 15,000,000 different swing possibilities! Homer's goal was not to instruct golf to the masses but rather to create a group of professional instructors of his curriculum, whom he designated "engineers" based upon TGM / Homer standards. The teachers would develop the individual instruction details as needed and invent teaching aides to help students. Look up Lynn Blake on UA-cam as he was a member of Kelly's last personally taught class. Lynn is a wealth of knowledge and has taught multiple Tour guys plus many other TGM teachers around the world. You can also watch Scott Hamilton as he apprenticed under a Kelly disciple --- my long time teacher --- and currently works with 6 - 10 current Tour players. AMG Golf are guys who worked with Scott Hamilton for years. Foley is another TGM teacher as is Martin Hall on the Golf Channel. Martin Chuck is another. Jim Mclean is, also. Toss in Mac O'Grady, too. Haney as well. Chris Como. Can't forget Ben Doyle in Carmel. (see Clampett, Bobby) Homer has created a ton of multi-millionaire and there are many who owe their livelihoods to Homer Kelley!! At the end of the day, TGM is really about understanding and building YOUR swing (are you a hitter, a la Nicklaus, or are you rotational, see Hogan or Woods, Eldrick) You can choose either! You can also use different machines for different shots or circumstances. PS - I was taught TGM in 1980 and I refer the work in some way every time I pick up a golf club. Homer was pure genius!!

    The underlying cause and effect is Newton’s Third Law of equal but opposite reactions. During the initial phase of hip rotation and acceleration the shoulders arms and hands also accelerate at about the same speed. But as the hips return to parallel keeping the trail foot grounded will arrest the hip rotation causing hips, shoulders, arms and hands to abruptly slow down. What then happens to the club head mass is similar to what happens in a car to an unbelted occupant it a crash. The mass of the body stops but the club head reacts by whipping down around the hands. One also needs to consider how the mass of the lead arm is reacting in the downswing. That’s really the keep factor in Rory’s split hand drill. At the point the arresting of hip rotation via keeping the back foot grounded brings the club shaft horizontal and club head mass on the end of it to where it gravity and momentum can whip it down around the hands the mass in the lead arm which is pulling to club has nearly bottomed out in its swing arc the force vector of that lead arm mass will influence the direction the club head mass gets pulled down to the ball. This is where I think side bending of the spine in the downswing is a factor because some degree of side bending at that point in the swing is necessary for the mass of the lead arm to swing out towards the target, dragging club head mass in the same direction. I useful analogy here is how a fly fisherman casts or someone cracks a whip. The mass of the arms hold in the rod or whip are directs towards where the fly or tip of the whip need to wind up. The golf swing is an upside down version of this because the mass of the lead arm hangs down at this point in the swing. The next critical element is the releasing of the back foot to allow the hips to turn to the finish. I’ve studied Hogan’s swing frame by frame watching the movement of hips, hands and his back foot in the downswing and tried to emulate it. Hogan appeared to ‘peel’ his trail foot off the ground is a very controlled way as if were stuck to the ground with velcro or a zipper and didn’t try to turn the foot on the toe until late into the finish. I had been lifting and turning much quicker and slicing. When I emulated Hogan’s ‘velcro’ release of the back foot I discovered the acceleration of my hips in the finish was much more gradual and the direction mass if my lead arm moved changed from swinging left around my feet to one of swinging more towards the target giving the club head the time needed to completely swing around the hands in the finish to the point of the club head force being felt in my trail shoulder socket because club force was pulling shaft straight in line with the trail arm. I’d never felt it before because I’d been lifting and turning my back foot to soon. Allowing the club to extend like that in the finish is like the arresting cable on an aircraft carrier slowing a landing plane from 160mph to 0. Only a fraction of the potential energy in the club head mass gets transferred to the ball and what is left after impact makes it difficult to finish in balance. Slowing the lifting of the back foot to give the club head force time to pull both arms straight in the direction which will make the ball leave the club face in the desired direction will cause all that excess unbalancing force to move from club head, down arms and body to the ground just like the arresting cable of the carrier transfers the kinetic energy in the mass of the landing jet into the mass of the boat. The takeaway I got from studying the movement of Hogan’s hands, back foot and club head was that keeping the back foot grounded was critical for the release of the club head down around the hands because it is what “puts on the brakes” in the middle of the downswing and that how the back foot is lifted and turned allowing release of the hips influences the force vector the lead arm mass and how to club head and face get delivered to the ball. The action of the back foot controls the speed of hips and hands.

    Most golfers are not naturally athletic. Since they started they are compensating. The spin out and thrush vs the squat is their attempt to generate speed. Its understandable. Most pgolfers don't have that hand/eye to not hit 6 inches behind the ball with the squat move.Whe I see kids struggle. I get them to practice standing jumps and underarm throwing of the goofball. Hi Zach; I'm really glad you made this video because I was going to comment on how wrist hinge, for me, really causes timing problems with where the hinge is released. I have an issue with mis-timing it & hitting it fat. I also noticed during your demonstration that when your wrists are hinged at the top, your left wrist is noticeably cupped leaving the clubface open which causes a slice or can even cause a shank. Nearly everyone else is stressing a lot of hinge for speed at impact & it's good to see someone going the opposite way & really simplifying things. Thanks for your videos.

    Zach: my understanding of getting stuck is that your elbow is “stuck” to the seam of your shirt on the way down and does not get in front. This seems to be the case when Tiger demonstrates his Ole swing in the video clip. It seems to me that PCs spinning down eliminates getting stuck especially when you consider the downward (axe) motion of arms that PC talks about.

    Excellent video. I just started a speed training program. You measure the speed of every swing and you’re trying to maximize speed with each swing. Your body responds by using your lower body- it’s way to higher swing speed. I’ve already noticed that I’m using my legs differently. IMO you need both. (I was already going to the gym about 5 days a week.)

    High Zach; the only issue I have is that people will start with more weight than their bodies can comfortably handle possibly causing an injury, especially to the back. Going from the weight of a golf club being replaced with 5-8 pounds of dead weight seems extreme. Perhaps recommend beginning with lighter weight & working up to more so the body becomes adjusted to the gradual increase. Most people who want to begin weight training don't go to the gym & start with 100 pounds before their bodies can comfortably handle 50. I'm fairly certain that this seems like common sense but I'm sure you're aware that people want to see quick results rather than see the long-term result which is why they watch UA-cam videos for tips. They want results but they want them now. I definitely agree with your assertion that the swinging of the upside down club is useless other than to demonstrate where the woosh sound should happen in the swing & most teachers use it if the student doesn't understand where the speed should be. Nearly everyone can put the woosh with the club upside down but can't when it's held normally & that can be caused by other factors with the swing. I'm not speaking as a doctor or body mechanics specialist but only out of concern for players who might misuse extra weight to develop speed & end up with a serious back injury. Thanks for all you do to help us improve & keep it coming!

    • @ZachAllenGolf
      @ZachAllenGolf 5 днів тому

      Some valid points, but I don’t think 5-10 lbs is extreme. But you do need to train with caution, and build up slowly, especially if you have previous injuries.

    Come on Zach. If your students don't gain swing speed with speed sticks then they're not following the protocols properly or regularly. Nothing wrong with gaining strength at all but us older folks aren't at the phase of life to bulk up. I'm 64, 6 feet tall, and 165 lbs and I've increased my swing speed by 10 mph using speed sticks. But more importantly, hundreds of pros use speed sticks or the rypstick, or the stack system and they're gaining club head and ball speed. All the science says that overspeed training works.

      You have some valid points. I just think that heavy has been really neglected in the last 10 years. For every one person I have seen improve with the speed sticks, I have seen another that it has negatively affected. Swing with weight is a bit more full proof.

    I bring the ebell to the course and do it in the parking lot before every round. I do get some stares and questions. I feel it helps loosen and activate the big muscles of that back and core.

      Man I love it, and I don’t care about what people think. In fact I think there is some good in that mindset, go out and do something that most people will think is weird, than when you get on the course with everyone watching, you feel totally immune to the peer pressure.

      My brother in law brings his ebell to the course and warms up with in the parking lot. He gets a lot of stares. But he’s starting to hit the ball a lot better now. So I ordered a kettle bell to make sure I can keep out driving him. Thanks for the videos Zach!

    Kettlebell swings are a staple of my golf fitness routine, both side-to-side and up and down. I would suggest as much weight as possible to allow 5-10 reps. The more weight the more you are forced to use the big muscles. As you said, too light of weight and you default to your arms and shoulders. Good video

    I have been good ng to the gym for over a month, to tone up my muscles, now I feel as if I have command of the golf club, rather than the club having control over my swing. Does take much, maybe e 25 min a day, and in time you'll feel the difference, better for endurance as well.

    • @ZachAllenGolf
      @ZachAllenGolf 5 днів тому

      The gym is very good, but you need to make sure if golf is your priority that you are training and moving the proper golf muscles. I see many that hit the gym, but don’t translate that to more strength, balance or efficiency in there swing. The Ebell is definitely golf specific.

    Great video as always. The key takeaway for me is that you have to put in the work if you want to improve anything. There is a lot of buzz out there now about Ground Reaction Force with force plates, pressure boards, force pedals, rotex, etc. One thing that I have noticed with Swing Catalyst is the mention of determining whether you are a front, center, or rear post golfer based on your natural anatomy, with the idea that by using the wrong post method you could injure yourself by trying to swing faster.

    • @ZachAllenGolf
      @ZachAllenGolf 5 днів тому

      Ya I believe there is some good in this, but many golfers are simply not any post, or just plain moving incorrectly or in a weak fashion. Having some added weight will help you to discover how to best move.

    Then there are golfers who play catch with the club face. The moment I started doing that, I started flushing my irons.

    Love your stuff Zach, however if you notice on PC’s full video, he has D Maude in practice, have him turn the clubface down to the ball from DELIVERY position and not from the start of downswing. His work on the 3 forces in the swing movement is superb. The ‘down’ has the effect into delivery which has effect of lateral which has effect of rotational . The lateral and rotational are therefore effects not conscious moves.

      Some valid points. There is alot going on in the forces at the grip during this period. And I’m not saying that spinning the right arm down force doesn’t occur at all, but more so what is a good feel for most recreational golfers.

      @@ZachAllenGolf ye that’s the issue the golf industry has in relation to instruction I believe. Feels observations etc are always subjective, so varying statements are made. Think I’ll write a book on golf terms 😁 keep up the good work . Anytime in Scotland , be great to share ideas.

    I agree with you if we are young and fit with a faster swing speed. But I agree with Peter Cowan at my age of 77 years with a slower swing speed..i cannot drive the ball as far been older. But I spend more time on the fairway than the younger players. To reach the green I'm using say a 5 iron were the younger player is using a 7 iron but not from under trees. I had to change my swing or give up golf. I've been playing golf for 69 years, and had no wish to play bowels. At a 4 handycap age does weary us with that age we must change. I don't have that timing ability of youth I need more time to strike the ball.

      @aliwilliams, good call, I noticed those too!! They look like the FJ's that two other members at my club wear since I often see them outside their lockers after they've been cleaned/shined by the locker room staff. I've stopped to admire them and plan to buy a pair!😊
